Although bittersweet that the 2014 Transplant Games of America has officially ended, with 50 medals and counting, Team Maryland athletes already have their minds set for the 2016 Games! I had the chance to talk with two Living Legacy team members, Ieesha Johnson and Kristen Haverkamp, who won a trip to Houston from LLF and had the chance to go support Team Maryland in the Games this year.
The LLF held a contest for the 2014 Family Fun Run, with the prize being a paid trip to Houston for the Transplant Games of America. For the LLF employees who had Fun Run teams, every person they got to sign up on their team gave them one more chance of winning the prize. Kristen and Ieesha both had over 25 people already signed up on their teams, and won the trip to the Games. Both winners had an opporutnity to bring a guest, and they both chose to bring another LLF employee with them!
Can you provide a brief background on your involvement with LLF?
Ieesha: I’m currently the Community Educator for LLF. I work within the communities in Maryland to provide education about the benefits of organ and tissue donation.
Kristen: I’m a lab services technician in the tissue lab. I have been with LLF for almost two years now. I am on the Safety committee and volunteer/ participate in the Family Fun Run!
1. What is one thing that surprised you about the Transplant Games of America?
Kristen: The close knit bond strangers can have when they are brought together through donation. The Transplant Games were truly an eye opening experience and I was so happy for the chance to participate....Click here to read more.
